Fireworks and Bonfire Night |
||
|
Dear Residents, As we approach Bonfire Night on November 5th your local ward teams will be deploying to minimise any possible disturbances and anti-social behaviour caused by fireworks. This will include deploying officers on late shifts over the next two weeks. The law controlling the use of fireworks is quite clear and stems from Section 80 of the Explosives Act of 1875. It states: “If any person throw, cast or fire any fireworks in or into any highway, street, thoroughfare, or public place, he shall be guilty of an offence.” It is illegal to purchase fireworks unless you are over 18, and it is illegal for under 18’s to be in possession of an adult firework (i.e. anything more than a sparkler) in a public place. Illegal sales of fireworks can result in on the spot fines and imprisonment up to 6 months. If you do see or hear fireworks being set off in the streets near your homes, please report it to the police by calling 999 or 101. The nearest public firework display to Vincent Square will be in Battersea Park on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th from 8pm. | ||
